C-POWER CONTRIBUTION
The initiative by C-Power NV to build a far shore wind farm in the Belgian North Sea fits into the context of the European and Belgian commitment in the field of renewable energy.
The C-Power project on the Thornton bank will have an installed capacity of 325 Megawatt, which corresponds to an expected annual electricity production of 986.1 GWh or approximately 1 TWh.
The yearly electricity production in Belgium is approximately 89 TWh. At present only 6,7 % of this total is generated from renewable sources. (Source: SPF Economy & Energy, 2007)
This means that the 1 TWh expected production generated by the offshore wind project of C-Power will represent more or less 40 % of the Belgian commitment (by 2010) in the field of renewable energy.
